Back to the Future
Here’s something the movie got right – the abolition of lawyers…
In the second film of the franchise Marty McFly and Doc travel forward in time to 21 October 2015 in a bid to change Marty’s son’s destiny. However, Marty’s son is jailed within hours of his crime and the Doc says that the justice system works swiftly in the future, “now that they’ve abolished all lawyers!”
Last week, the Government announced a system of Duty Solicitors contracted to the Ministry of Justice, which it is thought will lead directly to the decimation of hundreds of independent law firms.
In the movie, lawyers were abolished in order to speed up the justice system – and look what happened there!
